Mount Ephraim Gardens
Just outside the market town of Faversham off the A2, you can find the Edwardian Gardens of Mount Ephraim. Owned by the Dawes family for over 300 years, Mount Ephraim House was originally built in 1690 and then reconstructed during the 1870's. The 8 acres of gardens are home to an extensive collection of trees, shrubs, spring bulbs, roses, rhododendrons and topiary to name a few.
The highlights include a small lake, which was hand dug in 1912 by unemployed Welsh miners, a Japanese rock garden a complete with a miniature cascade, stone lanterns and a bridge, and a MizMaze, planted in 2004 which is thought not be the largest of it's kind in the world. The MizMaze is a series of nine turf paths bordered by ornamental grasses and herbaceous perennials. A variety of events are held at the gardens, some of these include: outdoor performances of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream, and a classical proms concert.
The Hernhill Craft Centre is open on Sundays, located just past the topiary garden in the stable block. The Gardens are open from Easter to the end of September, on Wednesday's, Thursday's, Saturday's and Sunday's. Dogs are welcome, if kept on a lead.
The Gardens are open from Easter Sunday to the end of September on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 1pm - last entry 5pm (Teas available) and Bank Holidays from 11am - last entry 5pm (Lunches and teas available).
