SECRET NUCLEAR BUNKER, KELVEDON HATCH

We are currently the biggest and deepest cold war bunker open to the public in southeast England!

Come and witness the three lives of the bunker starting with its role as an RAF ROTOR Station, then a brief period as a civil defence centre through to its most recent life as a Regional Government HQ. Designed for up to 600 military and civilian personnel, possibly even the Prime Minister, their collective task being to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war.

Tour Guidelines

The tour is self guided by personal handsets. This is included in admission price. There is an adult and child tour available which both follow the same route.

There are several films to watch en route and a dressing up area where you can try on authentic military uniforms and gas masks!

There is also a computerized quiz to see how well you have been listening to the tour. As a rough guide the tour takes about an hour to complete. However should you stop to watch all of the included films and take some time out to try on the uniforms then this extends the tour by another hour. Some people find one tour just isn't enough to take it all in!

There is a canteen on site serving light refreshments every day, including soup. Most weekends the canteen will serve hot meals.

Summer: March 1st to October 31st Open Every Day! Weekdays : Open 10 am - Last entry 4 pm Weekends & Bank Holidays : Open 10 am - Last entry 5pm

Winter: November 1st to February 28/9th Open Thursday to Sunday inclusive. Open from 10 - Last entry 4 pm* (* We are usually open during school holidays and half term.)
